A special event in the Stevenskerk was the 75th anniversary of the friendship bond between Albany NY and Nijmegen. A connection between 2 cities and its citizens that arose from and after the war. Born through the commitment of soldiers and compassion of ordinary citizens in their wish to help others in rebuilding after a devasstating war. A people-to-people friendship that in 1947 gave hope and strength to put one’s shoulders to the wheel.<\/p>\n
It is a small but important event in the history of Nijmegen and of Albany. In our time a possible role model for non-institutional reconstruction aid.<\/p>\n
